Private French Lessons for Children
How long is each lesson?
Our teachers recommend 1-hour session per week with breaks for school holidays. Parents often choose to run three “terms” per year, each “term” lasting 10 sessions.
How often do the lessons take place?
Children learn through listening and repeating so it is important that they have regular lessons. Once a week is the minimum recommended and we encourage parents to work with the teacher on how to help their children practise in between sessions.
How large should groups be?
Our fees are based on groups of 2 to 5 children; we recommend that there be no more than 5 children.
Where do the lessons take place?
The teacher will come to your home and teach the children in an environment that they are already familiar with. We recommend a quiet environment, where they will not be distracted. The teacher may ask to use your audio equipment if it is available.
Can the parents be present?
We highly recommend that a parent be present during the lesson to help the teacher and the children. This person will benefit from the lessons as much as the children; parents may wish to work with the teacher to help their children practise outside the lessons.
What will the children learn?
We have a syllabus that is theme based and tailored to cover everyday subjects such as “The Family”, “Toys”, “Farm Animals”, “Visiting the Zoo”, etc. The children will learn new vocabulary and easy structures each week and build on their knowledge each term.
The teachers use role-play, songs, games, flashcards as well as hand-outs and many other learning media to ensure that each lesson is varied and captures the children’s attention.
When do the lessons take place?
Lesson times and days are flexible and we aim to fit in with your schedule: 4.00 to 5.00 is often the most popular time for lessons.
