French Lesson for Nurseries - Process
How Does it Work?
How long is each lesson?
The teacher comes to your nursery for a minimum of 1 hour per session.
You can divide this hour (or a longer session) into smaller segments for each group.
For example, Melanie visits a nursery in Ealing for a 1.5 hour every week during term time: she spends
- 10 minutes in “the baby room”
- 20 minutes with each of the 2 “middle groups” (2 to 4 year olds)
- 40 minutes with the “older group” (4 to 6 year olds).
How often do the lessons take place?
Children learn through listening and repeating so it is important that they have regular lessons. Once a week is the minimum recommended and we would encourage nursery staff to work with the teacher to organise practise sessions during the week between lessons.
How large should groups be?
We recommend that children be arranged in groups of 6 - 8 based on their age. Nurseries often have pre-established age groups and these can be divided into smaller groups if necessary.
Where do the lessons take place?
The teacher will come to your nursery and teach the children in an environment that they are already familiar with. We recommend a quiet environment, away from the other children, where they will not be distracted. The teacher may ask to use your audio equipment if it is available.
When do the lessons take place?
Lesson times and days are flexible and we aim to fit in with your nursery time table. Mornings are the most popular choice for lessons.
Most nurseries run on a term basis and have an average of 10 lessons per term although this is flexible.
